About the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF)

Established in 1914, the CIF serves as the governing organization for high school athletics in California. The federation is uniquely positioned to promote student development in values and ethics, offering students the chance to belong, connect, and compete in sports that are education-focused. The CIF aims to encourage equity, quality, character, and academic growth. As a nonprofit federation, the state office based in Sacramento, California, advocates for the interests of its member Sections. The 10 Sections correspond to various geographic areas within the state: Central, Central Coast, Los Angeles City, North Coast, Northern, Oakland, Sac-Joaquin, San Diego, San Francisco, and Southern. CIF represents 1,628 member schools, both public and private, and serves over 800,000 student-athletes.
