Super Bowl Championship Rings of the National Football League

The Super Bowl is an annual Championship Football game of the National Football League (NFL). As a tradition since 2004, the game has been played on the first Sunday in February.

The professional football game Championship was a result of a 1966 merger agreement between the NFL and its rival the American Football League (AFL). The agreement stated the two Championship teams would begin playing in an annual AFL-NFL World Championship Game until the merger was concluded in 1970.

As a result, the first game was played on January 15, 1967, after both leagues finished their 1966 seasons. After the merger, both leagues were re-branded as “Conference”. Since then, the game has been played between the conference championship to determine the NFL’s league Champion.

The winning NFL team is awarded Vince Lombardi Trophy and custom football championship rings designed and manufactured by a jewellery company, chosen by the winning team.

Custom rings have evolved as technology progress leading to creating a variety of ring designs. The first football ring was created and awarded to the 1967 Green Bay Packers Champions. Their ring featured a single one-carat diamond. Whereas the latest custom football rings to 2019 England Patriots Champions has 422 Diamonds for 8.25 carats and 20 Blue Sapphire stones embedded in the 10K White Gold Championship Ring.
