October 28, 2022  –  Long Beach Polytechnic High School‘s football team won the 2021 CIF-SS Division 4 Championship.

Defeating St. Francis High School Golden Knights 38-7 in the CIF Championship Bowl Game on November 28, 2021.

As the season started, CalPreps’s ranking system placed the Jackrabbits in Division 4 of the playoff divisions. This did not sit well for the team as they worked together defeating 4 teams along the way and winning the CIF-SS Championship Game:

  1. Long Beach Poly 0-0 Trabuco Hills High School Mustangs
  2. Long Beach Poly 49-3 Upland High School Highlanders/Scots
  3. Long Beach Poly 35-0 Cypress High School Centurions
  4. Long Beach Poly 38-7 St. Francis High School Golden Knights

Jackrabbits’ senior captain Jalen Johnson predicted his team would win early in the second half of the game when he saw the Golden Knights players starting to tap out.

Johnson explains “You can see they’re slow coming out of the huddle, they’re not firing off the ball, it’s in their facial expressions that they really don’t want to be here anymore,”

“It’s a great feeling–it makes us hungrier. Our coaches always tell us, all gas no brakes.”
