National Video Game Day is officially celebrated on July 8, 2024. Meanwhile, the esports community also observes a similar occasion, National Video Games Day, on September 12, 2024. However, both celebrations share a common theme: expressing gratitude to parents for providing the cartridges and quarters needed to enjoy gaming. This was noted by IGN in “Is it Actually National Video Games Day?

Today we honour the impact of video games on our lives, celebrate the creativity involved in their development, and recognize the exceptional skills and abilities of professional gamers. As the narrative unfolds, viewers are taken through the psychological and strategic challenges of National Championships, adding to the lasting legacy and future of Call of Duty esports, symbolized by the coveted Championship Rings.

This documentary begins by exploring the origins of Call of Duty’s competitive scene, tracing its roots back to Game Battles, which evolved from Socom Battles and set the stage for the franchise’s explosive growth. The film highlights the transition from local events to large-scale online tournaments, with Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4 playing pivotal roles in this evolution.

Viewers are introduced to the early days of esports with MLG’s Pro Circuit Ladders (PCLs), which formalized competition and gave rise to National Championships, including the iconic first Vegas tournament. 

The documentary looks into the influence of Halo on competitive gaming and how it helped shape the emerging Call of Duty community, setting the foundation for the rise of new teams and players.

As the documentary progresses, it showcases the dominance of Team Fear during the Call of Duty 4 era, where they cemented their legacy by winning the National Championship in Vegas. The rise of new teams like Extravagant Icons in 2009 is also chronicled, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Call of Duty esports with the release of Modern Warfare 2. Frostbite 2019 was a major Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament sponsored by Nintendo, held in Detroit, Michigan. It was the first Frostbite event to feature Ultimate and took place from February 22nd to 24th, 2019.

The top of the 2019 Frostbite Championship Ring showcases a unique design, featuring bear claws positioned on the ring, with the Frostbite logo centered and surrounded by stones.

Light blue stones adorn the top sides of the ring, reflecting the blue in the Frostbite logo. On the left shoulder, the recipient’s Gamertag is displayed alongside a controller and claw marks, while the right shoulder features the SSBU logo with the title “Champion.” What truly distinguishes this Championship Ring are the bear claws and claw marks, perfectly aligning with the logo’s theme.
