The Story of the Ring: Binghamton Black Bears' Historic Third Consecutive Championship

October 7, 2026 — In front of a capacity crowd at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, the Binghamton Black Bears closed out Game 4 against the Pee Dee IceCats 4-2 on May 12, 2026. As a result, hockey history changed.

For the first time in the Federal Prospects Hockey League’s 16-year history, one franchise had won three Commissioner’s Cups in a row.

Binghamton’s defense made sure of it in the third period, holding Pee Dee to just three shots on goal while the Black Bears protected a lead built on a four-goal second period from Gavin Yates, Gehrett Sargis, Kyle Stephan, and Scott Ramaekers. It was the kind of performance that defined the entire season: this team didn’t just win Championships.

The Black Bears set the standard for the league.

The 2026 Commissioner's Cup Championship

The Black Bears backed up the milestone everywhere you look. Head Coach Brant Sherwood, Goaltender Dominik Tmej, and Forward Ivan Bondarenko swept every major individual honor the FPHL hands out this year, a first in franchise history.

  • Tmej tied the league’s single-season shutout record with seven and posted a .932 save percentage, and was named 2025-26 Goaltender of the Year
  • Bondarenko broke the franchise’s single-season assist record with 77 and tied the points record at 98, including a 25-game assist streak that ran from November into January.
  • When it mattered most, CJ Stubbs delivered a Finals MVP performance to cap it off.

This wasn’t just a FPHL Championship. This was a dynasty, and it arrived in the Black Bears’ 5th anniversary season as Binghamton’s professional hockey team.

In a city that’s called minor league hockey home for 54 years, this is the story behind the 2026 Binghamton Black Bears Commissioner’s Cup Championship Ring.

The Story Behind Binghamton's 2026 Commissioner’s Cup Championship Ring

Every Championship season leaves behind a story. Baron® Championship Rings builds that story into every detail of the ring itself.

2026 Binghamton Black Bears Ring Day: Reliving the Moment

Five days before raising the third Commissioner’s Cup Champions banner on home opening night October 10, 2026, the Black Bears gathered for a tradition that’s become its own kind of ritual: the Ring Ceremony.

One by one, players and organization members received their ring box caring their 2026 Binghamton Black Bears Commissioner’s Cup Championship Ring inside.

As they all opened their boxes for the first time, the reactions said it all: wide eyes, genuine surprise, and the kind of excitement that doesn’t fade with a third ring. As the team captioned it on Instagram, this one’s “another annual tradition.”

As the Black Bears gear up for their highly anticipated home opener against the Watertown Wolves, a special pregame ceremony will take place to honor the members of the 2025-26 team and proudly raise the third Commissioner’s Cup banner.

The Federal Prospects Hockey League has officially unveiled the exciting new schedule for the FPHL 2026-27 season.

Significant changes are in effect for the 2026-27 FPHL season, as the league expands westward to include 17 teams and realigns its divisions.

Binghamton will compete in the newly established Atlantic Division alongside the Blue Ridge Bobcats, Danbury Hat Tricks, and Twin City Thunderbirds.

This season, Binghamton will face off against their new division rivals a total of 23 times, setting the stage for an action-packed season.

Years from now, the players who lift this ring won’t just remember a single night. They’ll remember a run. A stretch of hockey where Binghamton didn’t just compete for Championships; it owned them.
