2023 Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy Championship

Army West Point’s Head Coach, Jeff Monken, guided the Black Knights at the start of their CIC Championship, “Persevere, persevere, persevere, and then the tide will come. Now, we get to play for a Championship!”

The Army West Point Black Knights (6-6) defeated the Navy Midshipmen (5-7) 17-11 in the 124th Army-Navy Game at Gillette Stadium on December 9, 2023. It marked the Army’s second consecutive win over the Navy and their fourth Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in seven years.

This was the first time the rivalry was played in Massachusetts, aligning with the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party and the state’s role as the U.S. Army’s birthplace.

Army took a 10-0 halftime lead with a 4-yard touchdown from QB Bryson Daily to Tyson Riley and a 47-yard field goal by Quinn Maretzki. In the second half, Army’s Kalib Fortner returned a strip-sack fumble 44 yards for a touchdown.

Navy responded with a late score but was stopped short in a final drive. Daily led the offence with 84 rushing yards, while Fortner paced the defence with 10 tackles and a game-changing fumble recovery.

“I’m so proud of this team! I’m so proud of our seniors! Think about how far we’ve come,” said Head Coach Monken after winning the 2023 CIC Trophy.

“We believed and we kept fighting! Now, we won four in a row, and right where it belongs, this trophy will be at West Point New York!”
