 2024 Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Nationals

Hofstra University’s Cheer and Dance teams achieved remarkable success at the 2024 Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Nationals held in Orlando, FL. The Cheer Team secured first place in the Small Coed Premier division, third place in the Small Coed Game Day category, and fourth place in the Division I Small Coed competition. This achievement marks the team’s sixth victory at the University World Cup. Meanwhile, the Dance Team celebrated its 11th National Championship, winning this year’s title in the Division I Pom competition.

“Our program represented Hofstra University in such a positive way and provided the National competition with power, strength, and a love for what we do. I am extremely proud of each athlete, coach, and choreographer for every ounce poured into this program – allowing us to reach our goals year after year,” said Dance Team Head Coach Kelly Olsen-Leon.

2024 Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Championships

January 14, 2024 – The Endicott College dance team celebrated their fourth national title in program history by securing first place in Open Game Day at the 2024 Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Championships.

Endicott finished with a final score of 89.9167 points, with no deductions during the Open Game Day finals, outperforming the competition by more than 2.00 points. Minnesota State University, Mankato, took second place with 87.5667 points. This marks the second National Championship for Endicott, following their first title in 2021.

“Being proud of this group is an understatement…their commitment, passion, and drive never wavered. Our successes are due to their pride for Endicott, love for each other, and this sport. They are one of a kind. We are so happy to be bringing home another national title for the Gulls,” said Endicott dance head coach Nicole Sao Pedro-Welch M’12.

2024 CIF SS Northern Division Championship

February 2024 – Congratulations to the Mayfair High School Monsoons Boys Varsity Wrestling team! After a loss at the Duals Championships, the team came together at the individual tournament to win the CIF SS Northern Division Championship. A total of 14 wrestlers qualified, with 10 advancing to the CIF SS Masters tournament. This marks the highest number of wrestlers from Mayfair Monsoons qualifying for the Masters in the program’s history.

2024 CIF Southern Section Girls’ Soccer Championships (California)

February 23, 2024 – The Artesia High School Pioneers Girls Soccer team triumphed over the Maranatha High School Girls Soccer team with a final score of 1-0, securing the title of 2024 CIF Southern Section Girls’ Soccer Champions.

In an Instagram post, the team shared their reflections, stating, “It’s difficult to measure your success with trophies 🏆, but it’s great to know that this team will always be remembered as CIF-SS D7 Champions.”

The team expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to their CIF Championship victory, including all of Artesia High School, the staff, teachers, student body, coaches, photographers, fans, and alumni. Most importantly, they highlighted the dedication of the players who trusted the process from day one.

They emphasized the hard work put into each practice, meeting, camp, and game, which ultimately led to their achievement as CIF-SS Champions and CIF Regional Semifinalists.

2024 CIF Basketball Championship

February 24, 2024 – The La Habra High School Boys Basketball team triumphed over the Saint Bonaventure High School Boys Basketball team with a decisive 76-45 victory in the 2024 Southern Section 3AA Championship.

La Habra led 37-24 at halftime and then extended their lead to 52-36 after three quarters, ultimately dominating the fourth quarter with a score of 24-9. The Highlanders emerged as champions.

2024 Big Sky Basketball Tournament Champions

March 13, 2024 – The Eastern Washington University Women’s Basketball team claimed its first-ever 2024 Big Sky Tournament title with a 73-64 victory over the Northern Arizona University Women’s Basketball team. Northern Arizona started strong, leading 22-12 after the first quarter. However, from the second quarter onward, Eastern Washington took control and secured the win. It was a team effort for the Eagles, with four players scoring in double figures.

2024 ACHA National Women’s Hockey Championship

March 16, 2024 – The Sault College Women’s Hockey team secured their second consecutive American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Championship with a 3-0 victory over Assiniboine Community College.

Earlier this year, the two teams faced each other in a non-conference two-game series in Sault Ste. Marie. Sault College won the first match, but Assiniboine handed them their first loss in 46 games during the second contest, ending an impressive unbeaten streak.

During the national championship game, after a scoreless first period, Sault College quickly broke the deadlock early in the second period. This goal set the tone for a dominant performance, ultimately leading the team to secure the championship title.

2024 Big Ten Tournament Champions

March 24, 2024 – The Michigan State University Men’s Hockey team faced off against the University of Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Championship. The final game consisted of three full periods and went into overtime, with no penalties being called throughout the match.

It was a continuous back-and-forth contest until a defenseman scored with just six minutes left in the overtime period, securing the victory for the Spartans. This goal crowned the Spartans as the Big Ten Champions for the 2024 season.

2024 Golden Horseshoe Conference Championship

April 15, 2024 – The Fort Erie Meteors have won the championship of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference for the first time in the team’s history. Trailing 3-1 with less than 12 minutes remaining, the Meteors scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Caledonia Corvairs 5-3 in Game 7, held before an overflow crowd at the Haldimand County Caledonia Centre. As the seconds counted down, the Meteors began to celebrate on the bench before flooding the ice. This championship marks their first since the 1978-79 season when they claimed the Niagara District Hockey League title.

“It’s incredible. It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever been a part of,” said Meteors general manager/head coach Nik Passero.

2024 OSFL Football Provincial Championship

August 3, 2024 – The U14 Cumberland Panthers football team has been crowned the 2024 Provincial Champions after defeating the London Jr. Mustangs 28-0 in the Ontario Summer Football League AAA Bantam title game on August 3, 2024. This victory marked a perfect ending to an impressive season for the Panthers.

The OSFL Championship game showcased a thrilling display of talent and teamwork, with the Panthers demonstrating both strategic and physical resilience. Their offence capitalized on strong offensive line play, creating numerous openings for the running back to exploit.

“Our players have shown incredible commitment and skill and it’s wonderful to see their efforts culminate in a Provincial Championship,” said Gaucher. “We have a very professional group and we did our talking with our shoulder pads and the scoreboard, this victory is a testament to their perseverance and teamwork.”

2024 U SPORTS Canadian University Tennis Championships

August 12, 2024, Women’s Final – The University of Alberta Pandas Women’s Tennis team triumphed over the Rouge et Or de l’Université Laval Women’s Tennis team with a score of 4-1, securing their fifth consecutive National title.

The University of Alberta began by winning the doubles point and then claimed victory in two of the first three singles matches.

Meanwhile, the University of Toronto defeated Dalhousie University 4-0 to win the third-place matchup.

2024 WCBL Championship

August 17, 2024 – The Okotoks Dawgs have won their third consecutive WCBL Championship, marking this achievement as the second time in franchise history. They defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 6-5 in front of 6,342 fans during game three of the WCBL Championship Series, thanks to a walk-off home run by a hometown hero. This victory brings the Dawgs’ total to eight Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) Championship titles.

2024 Big Sky Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship

November 10, 2024 – The Sacramento State Hornets women’s soccer team faced the University of Idaho Vandals women’s soccer team in the 2024 Big Sky Conference Women’s Soccer Championship.

The November 10, 2024, match ended in a 0-0 draw, and the Hornets won in the shootout with a score of 7-6. This victory marks Sacramento State’s first conference title since 2010.

2024 Canadian Bowl Championships of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL)

November 11, 2024 – The 115th Canadian Bowl took place on November 11, 2024, at Acumen Stadium in Windsor, Ontario, drawing a crowd of approximately 2,500 fans. In a historic moment, the St. Clair Saints football team won their first-ever CJFL National Championship, becoming the first college team to do so by defeating the Okanagan Sun with a decisive score of 37-22.

This victory was a long time coming for the Saints, who last claimed the Canadian Bowl in 1999 with a narrow 32-29 win over the Sun. The 2024 championship marked the end of a decades-long title drought, cementing the Saints’ legacy in college football history.

Maurice Sodja was a standout star, earning the title of Offensive Player of the Game after delivering a remarkable performance with four total touchdowns and over 350 all-purpose yards. Wide Receiver Cameron St. Kitts-Park from Oshawa, Ontario, was also recognized for his exceptional play, being named Special Teams Player of the Game.

Despite joining the roster as a punter only a week before the championship—his first time punting since high school—St. Kitts-Park excelled in both punting and kick-off returns. Additionally, he led the game in receptions and receiving yards, finishing with six catches for 137 yards, further solidifying his reputation as one of the CJFL’s top players.

A special acknowledgment was also given to St. Clair Football General Manager and Defensive Coordinator Mike Morencie, who was honoured as a CJFL Life Member. This prestigious recognition celebrated his years of dedication and contributions to the league. The award was presented during the CJFL National Championship banquet on Friday evening, adding another layer of pride to an unforgettable weekend for the Saints organization.

2024 Grey Cup Championship

November 17, 2024 – The 111th Grey Cup was held to determine the Canadian Football League (CFL) champion for the 2024 season.

The game took place on November 17, 2024, at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Toronto Argonauts triumphed over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a score of 41–24, capturing their league-leading 19th Grey Cup championship.

This victory marked the Argonauts’ second championship win in three years, while it was the Blue Bombers’ fifth consecutive appearance in the Grey Cup.

This event marked the 17th time Vancouver has hosted the Grey Cup, the last being in 2014.

With this victory, the Argonauts now hold the record for the most Grey Cup wins in CFL history, totalling 19, which is five more than the next-best team.

2024 NJCAA DI Women’s Soccer Championships

November 23, 2024 – The Daytona State Women’s Soccer team triumphed over the Arizona Western College Women’s Soccer team in the 2024 NJCAA DI Women’s Soccer Championship. The final match took place in Wichita, KS, and culminated in an exhilarating penalty shootout, ending with a score of 2-1. The Falcons finished their historic season with an impressive record of 18 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, showcasing a combination of skill, resilience, and teamwork.

Additionally, Arizona Western received the Sportsmanship Award, while Daytona State head coach Hope Clark was honoured with the Coach of the Tournament award.

“This is an incredible moment for our program,” said the Head Coach of Daytona State Women’s Soccer team, Hope Clark, reported in the Falcons’ Championship article. “Our team worked tirelessly all season, and their determination, talent, and unity truly shined on the national stage. I couldn’t be prouder of this group.”

2024 Vanier Cup Championship

The 2024 Vanier Cup Championship was the 59th edition of the tournament, held on November 23, 2024, at Richardson Memorial Stadium in Kingston.

In the final, the Laval Rouge et Or football team faced off against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and emerged victorious with a score of 22-17. This victory marked a record-breaking 12th Vanier Cup Championship title for the Rouge et Or from l’Université Laval.

With this win, Laval’s all-time record in Vanier Cups improved to 12-2, while Laurier’s record now stands at 2-4 in championship games.

Additionally, this win is the 11th for Laval head coach Glen Constantin.

The 2025 Vanier Cup is scheduled for November 22, 2025, and will take place at Mosaic Stadium in Regina for the first time.

Big Sky Coach of the Year

November 26, 2024 – Big Sky Coach of the Year was awarded to Lyndsey Oates, Head Coach for the University of Northern Colorado Women’s Volleyball.

This is the fifth time Coach Oates has received this award: 2024, 2019, 2014, 2011, and 2009.

Additionally, Oates was presented with the 2012 Representative to the AVCA Board of Directors award.
