August 22, 2025 — On February 21, 2025, Canada Basketball announced the new class of Hall of Fame inductees. The formal induction ceremony was then scheduled for August 16, 2025, in Toronto.

The Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 includes:

• Allison McNeill (Coach)
• Karl Tilleman (Athlete)
• Carol Turney-Loos (Athlete)
• 1979 FIBA Women’s World Championship Team (Team)

The induction ceremony for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 took place on August 16, 2025, in Toronto, where the inductees were honoured for their outstanding achievements and lasting impact on the sport.

Michael Bartlett, president and CEO of Canada Basketball, expressed deep gratitude to the honourees.

He acknowledged their achievements as pioneers in basketball and recognized the positive influence they have had on the sport for Canadians.

Allison McNeill is a true pioneer in Canadian basketball, celebrated for transforming the women’s game on both the national and collegiate levels.

During her 13 seasons as head coach at Simon Fraser University (1988–2001), she led the program to 11 NAIA Championship appearances.

Appointed head coach of Canada’s women’s national team in 2002, McNeill elevated the squad from 22nd to 8th in the world rankings and guided Canada to its first Olympic berth in 12 years, reaching the quarterfinals at London 2012—tying the nation’s best-ever Olympic finish.

Her coaching journey also included time at the University of Oregon, and her lasting impact has been recognized with inductions into both the Basketball BC Sports Hall of Fame and the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Karl Tilleman was a prolific scorer before the three-point era. He made his mark in Canadian university basketball with the University of Calgary from 1979 to 1984.

Tilleman is the school’s all-time leading scorer, amassing 2,050 points in only 79 games. His remarkable talent earned him consecutive national Player of the Year honours in 1982 and 1983, and he led Canada West in scoring from 1981 to 1983.

Tilleman’s journey took him to the international stage, where he proudly represented Canada at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, secured a gold medal at the 1983 World University Games, and was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1984.

Recognized for his unparalleled contributions, he was voted the University of Calgary’s greatest athlete of all time in 2007 and later honoured with inductions into the University of Calgary Athletic Hall of Fame, Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, and Canada West Hall of Fame.

Carol Turney-Loos was a trailblazer in Canadian university basketball, shining brightly at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Saint Mary’s University, and the University of Victoria (UVic).

She led UBC to a national title in 1974, earning back-to-back Canada West First Team All-Star accolades and being named UBC Female Athlete of the Year in 1975.

At Saint Mary’s, she set two CIAU records, including the most points scored in a single game, before concluding her remarkable career at UVic. There, she propelled the Vikes to two national finals, clinching the championship in 1980 and earning the prestigious tournament MVP award.

That same year, she became the first recipient of the Nan Copp Award, recognizing her as Canada’s top women’s player.

Turney-Loos was honoured as one of the Top 100 U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Players of the Century and made her mark in both the UBC and UVic Sports Halls of Fame, inspiring generations to come.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team made history at the 1979 FIBA Women’s World Championship by capturing their first-ever bronze medal. Led by the extraordinary tournament MVP Sylvia Sweeney, this remarkable team triumphed over formidable opponents like South Korea, Italy, and Australia, showcasing their resilience and determination.

The 1979 team’s success laid a strong foundation for future generations, demonstrating that Canada could compete on the world stage and inspiring the ongoing success of the national program.

The 1979 FIBA Women’s World Championship featured a team roster comprised of 13 players, along with their head coach.

The team members included Candi Clarkson, Chris Critelli, Denise Dignard, Sharon Douglas, Luanne Hebb, Deb Huband, Holly Jackson, Alison Lang, Dori McPhail, Bev Smith, Debbie Steele, and Sylvia Sweeney.

The head coach for the team was Don McRae.
