ASUN Hall of Fame Class of 2024 ENSHRINEMENT CEREMONY

June 10, 2024 Baron® is honored to be the official provider of Atlantic Sun Conference Hall of Fame Rings at the ASUN Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Enshrinement celebration.

The 2024 inductees to the Atlantic Sun Hall of Fame were announced on May 16, 2024, joining the 36 individuals from the conference’s previous eight classes.

The ASUN Hall of Fame Class of 2024 celebrates an exceptional group of inductees who have made indelible marks in their respective sports.

Pete Dunn, the legendary Stetson baseball coach, led his team to over 1,300 victories and numerous Championships. Scott Whitlock, a stalwart of Kennesaw State softball, amassed nearly 1,000 wins and two National titles. Courtney Platt, a dominant force for FGCU softball, left her name atop multiple record books. Marit Foss, an offensive powerhouse for Jacksonville Women’s Soccer, set numerous scoring records. Whitney Kiihnl-Hickmon, a standout pitcher for Lipscomb softball, achieved unprecedented success and recognition throughout her career.

These athletes and coaches embody the spirit of excellence in the ASUN Conference. The ASUN Hall of Fame Class of 2024 ceremony, took place on May 30, 2024, at One Ocean Resort in Jacksonville, Florida.

Pete Dunn

Stetson | 1978-2016 (Baseball Head Coach)

Pete Dunn’s illustrious career as the head baseball coach at Stetson University spanned from 1978 to 2016, a period in which he transformed the Hatters into a powerhouse. Over 37 years, Dunn guided Stetson to 1,312 victories, averaging 35.4 wins per season. Under his leadership, the team made 17 NCAA Regional Tournament appearances and secured nine Atlantic Sun Conference titles.

Dunn’s exceptional coaching skills earned him the ASUN Coach of the Year award a record six times (1988-90, 1996, 2007, and 2011). His impact on players was profound, with 84 of his student-athletes advancing to professional baseball, including five draftees in the first four rounds of the MLB Amateur Draft and nine who reached the Major Leagues.

His contributions to the sport were further recognized in January 2014, when he was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Dunn’s legacy is marked by his dedication to coaching and his significant role in shaping the careers of numerous baseball players.

Scott Whitlock

Kennesaw State | 1985-2021 (Softball Head Coach)

Scott Whitlock’s distinguished career at Kennesaw State University spanned from 1985 to 2021, during which he achieved 996 coaching victories, making him the 24th all-time coach in NCAA Softball history. He led the Owls to two NCAA Division II National Championships in 1995 and 1996.

Whitlock played a crucial role in Kennesaw State’s transition into the Atlantic Sun Conference, where he guided the team to two ASUN Regular Season Championships and earned three ASUN Coach of the Year honors. Under his leadership, the program produced 51 All-Americans, 13 Regional Crowns, two ASUN Players of the Year, one ASUN Pitcher of the Year, and one ASUN Freshman of the Year.

Recognized for his contributions to softball, Whitlock has been inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Peach Belt Conference Hall of Fame, and the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame. His 36-year tenure at Kennesaw State also included roles as a coach and senior associate athletics director, underscoring his lasting impact on the university’s athletic program.

Courtney Platt

FGCU | 2008-11 (Softball)

Courtney Platt had a remarkable career with FGCU Softball from 2008 to 2011, leaving a significant mark on the program’s record books. She holds the all-time records for walks (175) and doubles (49) and ranks second in on-base percentage (.514), fourth in RBI (124), and fifth in home runs (25), slugging percentage (.602), and triples (9).

In 2011, Platt was named to the Easton All-America Third Team, becoming the second FGCU player in the Division I era to receive this honor. As a senior, she led both the Eagles and the ASUN Conference in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.387), doubles (16), total bases (93), and walks (57).

Nationally, she ranked sixth in walks per game (1.02) and seventh in on-base percentage (.576). Platt earned four All-ASUN selections, two NFCA All-Region picks, and a spot on the ASUN All-Decade Team (2011-20), highlighting her outstanding contributions to the sport.

Marit Foss

Jacksonville | 1997-2000 (Women’s Soccer)

Marit Foss was a standout offensive player for the Jacksonville Dolphins Women’s Soccer team from 1997 to 2000. She earned significant accolades, being named to the NSCAA Regional Second Team All-America twice (1998 and 2000) and receiving Third Team All-America honors from collegesoccer.com in 2000.

Foss played a crucial role in the ASUN Championship team that achieved a perfect 9-0 league record in her senior year. A three-time First Team All-ASUN performer (1998-2000), she is one of only 15 players from active ASUN member institutions to earn this distinction, and also one of 15 to be an All-Conference performer four times, with a Second Team nod in 1997.

Foss’s legacy is cemented in the ASUN record books, where she ranks prominently in several categories. She is tied for fourth all-time with three goals in a game, third with 16 goals in a season, and second with 39 career goals. Additionally, she holds the record for assists in a game (6), is the all-time leader in career assists (70), tied for third with eight points in a single game, and is the all-time leader in career points (148). Her impressive statistics and consistent performance made her one of the most accomplished players in ASUN history.

Whitney Kiihnl-Hickmon

Lipscomb | 2009-12 (Softball)

Whitney Kiihnl-Hickmon is one of the most celebrated players in ASUN Softball history, achieving unprecedented success during her career at Lipscomb from 2009 to 2012. She made history in 2010 by being the only player to be named both ASUN Player and Pitcher of the Year in the same season. Additionally, she was recognized as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012 and Freshman of the Year in 2009, while earning All-ASUN honors all four years.

Kiihnl-Hickmon’s performance on the field was consistently outstanding, earning her 12 Pitcher of the Week awards, the second-most in ASUN history, and contributing to a 154-67 (.697) team record during her tenure. She ranks in the top 10 of seven ASUN career categories: third in strikeouts (1,118), wins (93), and shutouts (40); fourth in innings pitched (876.0) and appearances (158); sixth in complete games (93); and seventh in games started (115).

She was instrumental in guiding the Bisons to their first-ever ASUN Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010 and led them to three top-three conference finishes. Kiihnl-Hickmon is one of only eight players in league history to earn three All-Tournament Team selections and one of just three pitchers to record over 1,000 career strikeouts. Her remarkable career has solidified her legacy as one of the all-time greats in ASUN Softball.
