Celebrating Women’s Basketball at the 2024 WBCA Convention

2024 WBCA Convention:  A Recap of Our Journey Connecting with Champions at the 2024 WNBA Convention: Discovering Opportunities, Sharing Insights, and Strengthening Bonds in the Basketball Community.

The location for the 2024 WBCA Convention is in Cleveland, Ohio, scheduled from April 4th to April 7th. This year’s headliners include Steve Yang, Selena Castillo, Kiaira Copper, Calvin Koo, Kara Lawson, Wesley Brooks, Corry Irwin, Chanda Rigby, and Christopher Meadows.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association is an association of coaches of women’s basketball teams at all levels. The group helps its members and promotes the development of women’s and girls’ basketball.

The WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) started with a meeting of a group of women’s coaches who met at the 1981 Olympic Festival in Syracuse, New York. Their main topic was to discuss the formation of a coaches association. The important goal for this group was to address the needs of women’s basketball coaches.

The group of women’s coaches included Jill Hutchison of Illinois State (elected to be the first president of the organization), 1984 Olympic coach Pat Summitt of Tennessee, 1992 Olympic coach Theresa Grentz of Illinois, C. Vivian Stringer of Cheyney State, Iowa and Colleen Matsuhara of Nebraska.

A follow-up meeting occurred sometime after the initial meeting in Wayne, Pennsylvania and the group voted head coach Betty Jaynes as interim executive director. After 1985, the WBCA office was relocated to Atlanta.

Furthermore, as the official supplier of Hall of Fame Rings for the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, Baron expressed deep appreciation for its inclusion in the WBHOF Class of 2023 Enshrinement.
