This year’s inductees include stars such as Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick, and Natalie Darwitz, along with Colin Campbell and David Poile in the Builder category. HHOF CLASS OF 2024 ENSHRINEMENT CEREMONY

November 11, 2024, TORONTO, ON Mike Gartner, Chair of the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee, announced on June 25, 2024, that seven individuals have been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Player and Builder categories. The vote took place at the Selection Committee’s annual meeting in Toronto.

In the Builder category, two individuals were selected, while five were chosen in the Player category.

The Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Induction Celebration was scheduled for Monday, November 11 in Toronto, following a weekend of “Induction Weekend” festivities beginning on Friday, November 8. Festivities include the annual “Hockey Hall of Fame Game” hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as the “Hyundai Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Classic” on Sunday, with Honoured Members Jayna Hefford and Eric Lindros serving as captains.

“(Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2024’s) contributions to the game of hockey are well documented and their election to the Hockey Hall of Fame is richly deserved,” said Gartner.

The Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2024 Induction Weekend Schedule:

  • Friday, November 8, 2024 – Hockey Hall of Fame Game at 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Arena, Toronto. Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings.
  • Saturday, November 9, 2024 – Inductee Fan Forum at 1:30 p.m. at the Hockey Hall of Fame, Brookfield Palace, Toronto. Partake in a special Q&A session featuring Class of 2024 inductees.
  • Sunday, November 10, 2024 – Hundai Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Classics at 3:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Arena, Toronto. Highlighting the Sunday afternoon schedule of the 2024 Hyundai Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Weekend Celebration. Two star‐studded teams led by Jayna Hefford & Eric Lindros face off in this annual Induction classic.

Colin Campbell

Led the New York Rangers to Stanley Cup victory

Colin Campbell, born in London, Ontario, in 1953, had a notable career as both a player and an influential executive in hockey. After being drafted by both the NHL and WHA in 1973, Campbell chose to play for the Vancouver Blazers of the WHA and went on to spend 11 seasons in the NHL with teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Rockies, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, and Detroit Red Wings. He notably helped the Canucks win the Western Conference in 1981-82.

Following his playing career, Campbell transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. He later became the Rangers’ head coach, leading them to a Stanley Cup victory in 1994.

Campbell’s legacy is most strongly defined by his work as an executive. As the NHL’s Senior Vice-President and Director of Hockey Operations, he introduced significant changes to improve the safety, speed, and inclusivity of the game. His creation of the NHL’s “Situation Room” for centralized video review has since been adopted by other sports.

In recognition of his contributions, Campbell was appointed to the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee in 2005 and remained a member until 2019. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builder Category for his pioneering work to advance the sport.

David Poile

The only NHL general manager to lead two separate clubs for 1,000 games

David Poile, born in Toronto in 1950, transitioned from a standout collegiate player to one of the most successful executives in hockey. After an impressive playing career at Northeastern University, where he set scoring records and served as captain, Poile briefly played in the AHL before moving into hockey management.

He began his executive career with the Atlanta Flames, later becoming the team’s Assistant General Manager. He later became the General Manager of the Nashville Predators in 1997, a position he held for 24 years, making him the longest-serving GM in NHL history. Under his leadership, the Predators reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2017, and Poile was named NHL General Manager of the Year.

Poile is the only NHL GM to lead two teams to over 1,000 games and 500 wins each. He also played key roles in the NHL Competition Committee and USA Hockey, managing U.S. teams in multiple World Championships and Olympic Games.

In recognition of his contributions, Poile received the Lester Patrick Trophy, was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018, and was welcomed into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024 in the Builder category.

Natalie Darwitz, born in 1983 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, has had a remarkable career in women’s hockey as both a player and an executive, playing a pivotal role in the sport’s growth. She excelled from a young age, amassing 468 points in high school and representing the U.S. at the World Championships while still a teenager. Over her career, she won three World Championship Gold Medals and multiple Silver Medals, earning recognition as one of the top players in international tournaments. Darwitz also competed in three Winter Olympics, securing a Silver Medal in 2002, a Bronze in 2006, and another Silver in 2010.

At the University of Minnesota, she became a standout player, leading the team to two consecutive NCAA championships and earning multiple All-American honors. After retiring from playing following the 2010 Winter Olympics, she transitioned to coaching, taking roles at Lakeville South High School, Hamline University, and the University of Minnesota. Her coaching career includes leading Hamline to a Frozen Four appearance.

In 2023, Darwitz became the General Manager of the PWHL Minnesota franchise, guiding the team to victory in the inaugural Walter Cup. She was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019 and elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024 in the Player category.

Pavel Datsyuk, known as “The Magic Man,” is celebrated for his incredible skating, stickhandling, and two-way play, making him one of the most dynamic players in hockey. Born in Sverdlovsk, Russia in 1978, Datsyuk began his professional career in the Russian Superleague before being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 1998. He joined the Red Wings in 2001 and played 14 seasons with the team, helping them win two Stanley Cups (2002 and 2008).

A master of both offense and defense, Datsyuk earned three Selke Trophies as the NHL’s best defensive forward and four Lady Byng Trophies for sportsmanship. He was also named to multiple All-Star teams and was recognized in the NHL Players Poll for being the hardest player to take the puck from and the cleanest player in the league.

Datsyuk’s NHL career totals include 953 games, with 314 goals and 604 assists. He also played key roles in international competition, winning Olympic gold, World Championship gold, and joining the prestigious IIHF Triple Gold Club.

After retiring from the NHL in 2016, he continued to play in the KHL, winning another championship before officially retiring in 2022. Datsyuk was named one of the NHL’s 100 Greatest Players of All Time in 2017, and in 2024, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Player category.

Jeremy “J.R.” Roenick, known for his tough, fearless style of play and candid personality, had a remarkable and successful hockey career. Born on January 17, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts, Roenick started playing hockey in the northeastern U.S. and quickly gained recognition for his skill. He shined in youth competitions, amassing impressive point totals before being drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks 8th overall in the 1988 NHL Draft.

Roenick’s NHL career spanned 20 seasons, beginning with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he played eight seasons and earned 596 points. He later played for the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks. Throughout his career, Roenick scored 513 goals and 703 assists, totaling 1,216 points in 1,363 regular season games. He also added 122 points in 154 playoff games and was a nine-time NHL All-Star.

Roenick proudly represented the U.S. in international play, competing in the World Juniors, IIHF World Championships, and Winter Olympics in 1998 and 2002. His vibrant personality extended beyond the rink, leading him to a post-hockey career as a television hockey analyst and author of two books about his life.

In 2024, Roenick was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Player Category, a fitting recognition of his illustrious career and contributions to the game.

Shea Weber, known for his powerful shot and strong leadership, was one of the NHL’s top defensemen before injuries ended his career. Born on August 14, 1985, in Sicamous, British Columbia, Weber played junior hockey with the Kelowna Rockets, winning two WHL championships, a Memorial Cup, and the MVP title of the 2005 WHL playoffs. Drafted 49th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2003, he made his NHL debut in 2006 and spent 11 seasons with the Predators, serving as captain for six of them. Weber was twice a runner-up for the Norris Trophy and received the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2016.

After a trade to the Montreal Canadiens in 2016, Weber captained the team for three seasons and led them to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. Despite a stellar performance, injuries ultimately forced him to miss the 2021-22 season, ending his NHL career. Weber played 1,038 regular season games, earning 589 points, and made seven NHL All-Star appearances, winning the Hardest Shot competition four times.

Internationally, Weber was a standout for Team Canada, winning gold medals at the 2005 World Juniors, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, along with the IIHF World Championships in 2007 and 2009. He is part of an elite group who has won championships at the junior, world, and Olympic levels.

In 2024, Shea Weber was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Player Category in recognition of his exceptional 16-season NHL career.

Krissy Wendell, born on September 12, 1981, in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, is celebrated as one of the top female hockey players in U.S. history. She began her career in boys’ hockey and led Park Center High School to a Minnesota state championship, scoring 219 goals in her last two seasons and earning the Ms. Hockey Award. At the University of Minnesota, she propelled the Golden Gophers to two NCAA titles and won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2005 as the nation’s best female college player.

Internationally, Wendell represented Team USA in six IIHF Women’s World Championships, earning five Silver Medals and a Gold in 2005, where she was MVP. She competed in two Olympic Games, winning a Silver in 2002 and a Bronze in 2006, captaining the 2006 team. Wendell amassed 106 goals and 247 points in 147 games for Team USA.

After retiring, Wendell became a scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2021 and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019. In 2024, her exceptional career was further honored with her induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Player Category.
