10 Years Since the Cavaliers Ring That Changed Cleveland Forever
Ten years after the historic comeback, the story behind the ring that ended Cleveland's 52-year Championship drought.
November 7, 2026 — Fifty-two years! That’s how long Cleveland waited between major professional sports Championships before the Cavaliers ended the drought in 2016.
It came after the franchise’s first-ever NBA title, capped by a Finals comeback from a 3-1 series deficit that no team in NBA history had ever pulled off. It was one of the greatest Moments in Cleveland sports and NBA history.
Ten years later, Baron® Championship Rings has grown into a leading North American Championship recognition company, creating custom Championship Rings and commemorative jewelry for teams, organizations, and Champions globally.

The Journey to a Title Ten Years in the Making
The road to 2016 wasn’t a straight line. After four seasons away, the core of this team came back home in 2014, rebuilt around a new supporting cast, and reached the NBA Finals in four consecutive seasons — all against the same opponent. Nothing tested that group like 2016.
Down 3-1 against a Golden State Warriors team coming off a record-setting 73 regular season wins, Cleveland became the first team in NBA history to come back and win a Finals from that deficit.
Two road wins at Oracle Arena forced a Game 7 that would decide 52 years of waiting, in front of a city that hadn’t stopped believing.
Where Were You? Cleveland Remembers Game 7
Game 7 for Cleveland wasn’t just any basketball game; it was a Moment shared, and the fans can recount in precise detail where they were when the clock ran our.
Some found themselves downtown, gathered along West 6th Street. Others watched surrounded by their families, in the words of one fan “Experiencing the first Championship in their lives”.
For guard Richard Jefferson, the date itself became part of the story. The Cavaliers won it on Father’s Day and in the years since, he’s heard from fans about what that meant: grown men who’d watched the game with their own fathers or grandfathers, and fathers who’d watched it with their sons.
As Jefferson put it, winning on Father’s Day “made it a little more significant”, an NBA Moment generations could share at once.
Ten years on, those memories are still surfacing. Players and fans reflecting on the anniversary describe exactly where they were: watching with family, stuck outside packed crowds in Oakland, and even at home screaming loud enough to wake the house when the buzzer finally sounded.

That’s the part of a Championship a Ring can’t put into words on its own, but it’s exactly what Baron® aims to build into every one it makes.
The Ring's Story, Told in Diamonds
Every great Championship Ring tells a story before you even ask what it means. The 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Championship Ring, manufactured by Baron® Championship Rings, tells seven.
Additionally, still holds strong as one of the Most Monumental Championship Rings in sports history.
- 16 diamonds set into “World Champions” — a nod to Cleveland’s 216 area code
- A 1-carat diamond crowning the Larry O’Brien Trophy — marking the team’s first-ever NBA Championship
- 46 cascading diamonds — one for every year the organization had existed
- The Roman numeral LII — 52, for the years of Cleveland’s Championship drought, now, as the ring puts it, water under the bridge
- The state of Ohio in 11 diamonds — one for each year of Dan Gilbert’s ownership
- A puzzle piece unique to each player — representing a Championship completed one piece at a time
- Red and white stones along the bottom — wins and losses from the Finals, immortalizing the first 3-1 comeback in NBA history
At 6.5 carats and more than 400 diamonds, set in 10K white gold and 14K yellow gold, it’s the heaviest NBA Championship Ring ever made.
That’s not a footnote — it’s the whole point. Every gram of it was designed to carry a piece of the story.
Baron®'s Own Journey to That Stage
The Cavaliers ring didn’t just make history for Cleveland. It made history for Baron® Championship Rings.
Baron® got its start in the 1980s, building school and Championship Rings the way a family business does — one relationship, one program, one ring at a time. It was Richard and Kathy who built that foundation.
In 2015, their children Peter and Drina made the decision to buy out their father and take the company further, rebranding it Baron® Championship Rings and sharpening its focus on Championship Jewelry specifically.
It wasn’t an easy pitch. As Baron® pushed into the U.S. market, the response was often the same. But Baron® stayed focused, and a connection through Team USA Basketball — for whom Baron® had already produced rings — opened the door to a presentation in front of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Baron® didn’t play it safe. The team set diamonds into the “World Champions” text in a way no one had ever done before on a Championship Ring. Every detail on that design was something new.
When the Cavaliers called back, the message was simple: “We pick you.” Baron® had brought the best design in the room.
“It was an amazing feeling,” said Peter Kanis, president of Baron® Championship Rings. “It was surreal. It was our Oscar moment.”
In the years that followed, some of the biggest names in sports came calling, from the NBA and WNBA (Seattle Storm) to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Hockey Hall of Fame; from MLS clubs (Los Angeles Football Club, New York City Football Club, Columbus Crew) to powerhouse collegiate programs like the University of Alabama and Montana State; and even the BIG3. Across leagues, teams, institutions, and generations of Champions, Baron® has been trusted to commemorate the moments, milestones, and Championships that become part of history.
Built by Hand, Powered by Innovation
Around the same time, Peter helped push the entire industry forward by introducing stainless steel settings and 3D-printed components to Championship Ring manufacturing, raising the bar for design, durability, and detail across the craft.
The process behind the Cavaliers ring is the subject of Baron®‘s own behind-the-scenes film, produced by AXLE Films:

3D printing doesn’t just add flash; it adds precision. Each ring can be built in a single piece, in a custom size, rather than assembled from multiple standard-sized pieces that need resizing later.
Baron® estimates the technology speeds production by 30% without giving up an ounce of detail.
One of Baron®‘s own drafters put it best: matching names, numbers, and sizes is detail-oriented work, but seeing a name like “Cavs” come together on screen, ring after ring, is still surreal every time.

A Legacy Bigger Than the Team
The Cavaliers’ Championship NBA Ring didn’t stay on the court.
Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert made sure of that by purchasing more than 2,000 replica rings for the team’s full- and part-time staff at Quicken Loans Arena. From players and coaches to the “Team Behind the Team”: concessions staff, arena operations, front office employees. Everyone who helped build that season got to wear a piece of it.
That’s the Legacy Baron® is proudest to have been part of. A Championship Ring isn’t only for the people whose names are on the roster — it’s for everyone who carried the Moment. Ten years later, that idea still sits at the center of everything Baron® builds.
