February 19, 2022 – As the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is about to close on February 20, 2022, let’s rewind and take a glimpse of what the Winter Games offered.

Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

The 2022 Winter Olympics opening ceremony was held at Beijing National Stadium, China on 4 February 2022.

Sections of the ceremony included a countdown performance, entry of the National flag, Olympic Rings performance, Parade of the Nations.

The opening ceremony featured the world’s largest LED screen (10,552 square meters (113,580 sq ft) and uses 40,000 LED modules) was unveiled at the opening ceremony.

Cai Qi, president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, thanked and welcomed all athletes while offering words of peace and unity in his speech at the Olympic opening ceremony.

Continuing on was Thomas Bach President of the IOC wishing a very Happy New Year, best wishes for the Year of the Tiger to all Chinese friends.  With thanks to an Olympic Year, he said China is a winter spot country with over 300 million people engaged in winter sports in about 2,000 ski resorts and ice rinks.

Bach continued to address Olympians.

“Dear athletes, we all are standing with you. We all are supporting you. We all are cheering you on.

May this encourage you to go faster, to aim higher, to become stronger – together. In this way you will inspire the world in this Olympic Year with the same ambition, courage and strength like the Year of the Tiger.“

The lighting of the Olympic cauldron symbolizes unity, and a chance for all the athletes to shine in the Olympics.

7 former Chinese Olympic athletes, gold medalists, and Olympic Champions passed on the torch, and of them 2 cross-country ski Olympians. The 2 lit the Olympic cauldron together, representing gender equality.

The Olympic cauldron for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was shown as a large snowflake with smaller individual snowflakes labeled with all the counties and NOC participating in the Winter Olympic Games. In the center was the Olympic flame.

As the large Olympic snowflake cauldron ascended into the air for all to see, fireworks started over the Beijing National Stadium and officially commenced the start of the Winter Olympic Games.
