The sole previous occurrence took place during Super Bowl LI, where the New England Patriots emerged victorious over the Atlanta Falcons in a 2004 highly memorable Championship Game.

In the closing minutes of the game, a strategic move by Steve Spagnuolo on third down disrupted the San Francisco 49ers’ plans, leading to a field goal attempt.

Mahomes, given another opportunity, drove the Chiefs down the field, securing a tying field goal by Harrison Butker to force overtime.

Although the 49ers scored first in overtime with a short field goal, Mahomes responded with a decisive touchdown drive, securing another Lombardi Trophy for the Chiefs.

Mahomes accumulated 333 passing yards, completing 34 of 46 attempts with two touchdown passes and one interception, resulting in a passer rating of 99.3.
